SCG Portfolio Company Sterling Technologies Acquires Prototype Manufacturing

Wixom, Mich.—Sterling Technologies acquired Prototype Manufacturing on February 7, 2018, the manufacturing division of JG Distributing located in Ishpeming. The acquisition, which preceded the company’s relocation to a new facility in Wixom, increased Sterling Technologies’ growth in heavy equipment and recreational equipment by 10 percent annually.

“We brought in a prototype and development emphasis that will apply to our existing Sterling business model,” says Dan Honer, the company’s president.

The company has been able to expand its wire harness manufacturing capabilities and added plastic injection molding capabilities that are already benefiting customers.

“With the acquisition, we also secured patent rights to a wire harness adapter system that is used in the snow plow equipment industry,” says Honer.

Since the acquisition, Sterling Technologies has been able to foster internal growth as well. The company now focuses on turn-key operator cab enclosures, control panels, instrument panels and wire harnesses, as well as creates and manufactures custom solutions for its clients.

“We focus on engineering design and validation, custom manufacturing and testing,” says Honer. “We work with firms of all sizes across the heavy equipment, truck and bus, and automotive industries, as well as the military and defense industry.”
